Your book makes no mention of a correction for north-south movement or
declination change. You do note that "vessels moving rapidly north or
south . . . " cause degradation. Many experienced navigators have
expressed disbelief that moving at sailboat speeds can have a significant
effect. The error due to this in my example is seventeen miles. I have
remarked that I was lucky to have first tried the method while sailing a
southwesterly course. Otherwise, I might still be among the ignorant.
