    I prefer the vector approach to the problem than the trigonometric one.

    Currents calculator (ChartWork application), and theory attached.

       Drift and set 
    • Surface vector: Speed and course of the vessel through the water. (STW, CS)
    • Current vector: Drift and set.
    • Ground vector: Speed and course of the vessel over ground. (SOG, COG)
