That's an interesting bug. They tested for greater than or equal to zero = North, without examining the minutes

Correction. The center of this artifact is near 0° 50' SOUTH, not North. The display in the new Google Maps apparently has a little bug and does not correctly display south latitudes less than one degree from the equator.
