Yes, Dan. A friend of mine lives aboard in Jacksonville (FL) and has heard the noise. The first time around it puzzled and worried him. I don't remember exactly what he called them but I think it was some type of small "shrimp" or similar critter. He confirmed that it was marine life, not fiberglass toredos, and has since learned to ignore them.
