Seriously, Well, my memory is not so good:-) In addition to the maximum declination, one has to remember the time of a solstice or of an equinox to do the procedure you suggest. But I agree that it is easy to memorize the day of one of these events. And the hour is irrelevant if your goal is 1 deg precision. Alex.
