    seem not to have gone through. At least, they have not appeared in my
    inbox, despite ListServ being configured to send me copies of my own

    However, the irradiation effect is obvious enough in other
    circumstances. Its ability to raise a false horizon above the real one
    is described in at least one usually-authoritative text: Bauer deals
    with it at some length on pp.111-114 of "The Sextant Handbook" (2nd
