I am also one of the inexperienced on this list. I have the Sparcom NAV-48 Celestial Navigation Pac for my HP-48GX. Works well, and tailor made formulae can be programmed into the HP. About a year ago, I bought my first Palm and I now find that I use that almost exclusively. I use CelestNav for nav calculations; Planetarium for learning the stars, planning sights and getting information on particular bodies; other programs such as Pilot Navigator for calculating geodesics (great circles) and loxodromes; and EasyCalc for programming in tailor made formulae. The Palm will do all of this and much, much more...ship's supplies, email, etc. A PPC will also do all this, in a different environment, using different software. (I do not want to get into that sterile argument of PPC vs Palm!!). I have no experience with the dedicated Nav calculators such as from Celesticomp, but to me they seem very expensive, and the world seems to have passed them by. Our archives contain a lot of discussion of calculators and software. (Hey, isn't this another pointer to the need for a FAQ?)
