Greg wrote " The question now is how to go about fabricating split and whole horizon mirrors?" Sorry, I didn't think about split mirrors. I'll edit the blog post in a few hours time to cover them. Whole horizon beam splitting mirrors shouldn't need replacing. The coating is said to be at least as hard and resistant as glass. I don't have any definite ideas about replacement. The principle is covered in some detail in US Patent number 4,421,407. The requisite material may be available on the surplus market somewhere.
