Gentlemen I browse old mathematical books for interesting gems. I came across a book on Euclidian Geometry, written by Robert Simson, dated M,DCC,XCI (1791). The most intersting thing about the book is that it, at one time, graced the bookshelves of the library of the great royal astronomer, Nevil Maskelyne. It is signed on the cover boards "Ex Libris Nevil Maskelyne", in black ink. The paste board just below is for Margaret Maskelyne, his daughter. The signature in the book matches very nicely to online images of his signature. It appears real and authentic. As such, I am holding in my hands the same book that Dr. Maskelyne himself one held! WOW! It is with great pleasure that I can now present to you Nevil Maskelyne's signature. If asked nicely, I might just bring it to Navigation Weekend.
