Not I, Jim. While I can understand the fondness some folks have for them, I can't see any reason to spend all that money on an old obsolete calculator when a modern $35 obsolete Palm will do so much more. Or, a "pocket pc" in the $300-500 range can be a complete PC. All kinds of nav software available for both of course. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Thompson"To: Sent: Saturday, October 23, 2004 4:23 AM Subject: Re: Navigational computers > -----Original Message----- > From: Lisa Fiene on October 23, 2004 4:21 AM > A friend has let me know that he's wanting to buy one of the following, > as his brother has recommended it, as it's 'what all the merchant > professionals use'. > http://www.vintagecalculators.com/html/tamaya_nc-77.html > His brother's view is it's so easy to make a mistake manually with CN > and this makes it almost impossible. Lisa, that's an old version of the classic Tamaya calculator. As I recall Jared (?) and others discussed its history as a USN version. I don't know whether what the disadvantages are of owning an old version of a CN calculator, but the price certainly might be right. The latest from Tamaya is the NC-2100, US$900+: http://www.sailgb.com/sshop/prod_info.asp?pid=12237 or http://www.tamaya-technics.com/nc-2100.html in Japanese. See http://www.starpath.com/catalog/accessories/starpilot/compare.pdf for Starpath's comparison of current hand calculators dedicated to CN. Jim
