First, a quick 'welcome aboard!" to the new members of the group. New blood keeps the list vibrant and interesting, and I encourage everybody, old members and new, to invite anyone you know who's interested in navigation to join us. Next, I apologize to anyone who has heard too many times about the upcoming "Celestial Navigation Weekend"... For those who haven't heard, the Planetarium at Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut is hosting a weekend gathering of navigators, educators, and historians of science, devoted to the history and practice of celestial navigation and nautical astronomy, June 6,7,8. Topics include longitude by lunar distances, navigation education, desert navigation, determining the 'most probable position', and more. There will also be opportunities to take actual lunar distance sights and other interesting practical sextant tips. All the details INCLUDING AN UPDATED SCHEDULE and a reservation/contact form are located on the web page for the event here: www.fer3.com/Mystic2008. We still have plenty of space available. It's a great chance to meet some other list members face-to-face as well as other navigation enthusiasts. I'm doing most of the organization work this year, so if you have any questions about this gathering, please feel free to contact me directly by email off-list or just reply to this message on NavList. Looking forward to seeing you all there! -FER --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ Navigation List archive: www.fer3.com/arc To post, email NavList@fer3.com To , email NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
