Another option would be to advance the date to September, perhaps the weekend after Labor Day.

I've been thinking that the middle of October may be too popular, too busy with other activities. Maybe we should try for the first weekend in November? That's also after the normal "fall foliage" tourism season in New England which tends to drive up prices. Any thoughts?
