    Re: NAO reduction table

    Paul:

I don't know why the USPS picked NAO tables. There are much better
    short tables.

I have a collection of Nav inspection and short tables. I have used
    211, 214, 229, 249. And I have just acquired a complete set of H.O.
218, not to mention those tables by Weems , Davis, Pepperday and,
Schlereth(Sight Reduction Tables for Small Boat Navigation).

I have found the inspection tables, 229, 214,, 249 etc, too big and
too many volumes to carry comfortably in a small boat. 249 is prone
to the pages tearing out when damp. I looked for a table that was
about the size of the Nautical Almanac a single volume AND worked
from the DR position. I also wanted a minimum of table re-entries to
    solve for "a" and "Zn".

What I use at sea is HO 208(Self-Contained Celestial Navigation with
    H.O. 208, John S. Letcher, 1977, International Marine, ISBN
0-87742-082-3). I plot on a college ruled notebook, actually a
"record" type account book, that fits next to the Almanac. Always
from the DR position. I use a calculator for backup, since I am prone
    to dropping them at sea.

P.S.: Looks like the roninhouse server finally spit out its messages.
