That's just it Alex.  They are overhauled (about 8 hours work) and guaranteed, as explained on the website.

On my opinion, Celestaire air sextants are overpriced.

You can get them on e-bay for much less.

Perhaps Celestaire offers some guarantee that they are in good condition?

I bought British MkIX A for $60 few years ago, and it was in good working condition when arrived.

about 50 years ago , while I was still USN igot one of those big clunky aircraft sextants complete with case, spare bulbs etc. (celestaire wants $600+) for $35. Mid 90's Davis 25. 2000, ASTRA IIIB, Then ASTRA "PROFESSIONAL". Latest USN MOD III, MARKI, MFG 1996, with spare mirrors, and i cant find a mark or flaw any where. Iwas a USN Quartermqster, when you hoped the LORAN A would reach out a hundred miles or so as you threaded yoyr way through the bahamas and caribean where a mile or so channel threads through 12ft waters for your 20 ft DE draft. So much for the DR and soiled shorts. Alll my wanderings were from Halifax to Gitmo, before it became such a turist attraction. It was just a place to store a couple thousand marines for gunboqt diplomacy, an watch the russian boats sail right up the bay(with destroyer escort) to GITMO City. One side trip to anchor in Montego Bay and try to stay clean in the whale boat getting ashore.

I leaarned to love navigation in the NAVY!
