Van,
Fred Noonan used the tested method of running down a Sun line to his destinations. Doing this puts an elevated Sun directly on the beam so that numerous bubble octant Sun observations can be made for determining regular checks of cross track error all the way to the destination during the final hour of flight. The pre-calculations would have been done for every 4 minutes of time for at least an hour before the expected time of arrival. A single unreliable sunrise line of position more than an hour before arrival would have been of limited usefulness here.

I transcribed the Cugle´s paragraph of my 1940 edition on your request , upon which you yourself replied that it was deleted after 1934 if I well remember it . That the 0718 GMT fixed coordinates are for Nukumanu is nonsense , the listings for the island are 159-30-E / 04-33-S , check with Norie´s , or with the H.O.Publ. on harbor coordinates . During my career I worked in the sciences (be it Economy) and we learned to give up our own theories immediately , as soon as a better one appeared . I have up to now not seen any , let go a better one on the subject of your hand , whereas with many words you invite people to read "oddball" calculations that I would have committed . Why would I , per example , "conveniently" partly leave out quotes contradicting my points ? I simply delivered a first quantitative research on the Earhart incident , anything wrong with this ?
