Terrific analysis. And yes, I understand your statement that the Moon's altitude may be measurable by observing the change in refraction.
Dip-wise, isn't it true that if you use a bubble sextant or artificial horizon, and knew your co-ordinates and time, you could compare the position of the upper or lower limb with an Ephemeris and the difference would be related to dip?
