    Frank gave the info HE= 17ft. From we can calc the dip.   Dip=0.97'·√HE(ft)=4'

    But is there one formula for calculating how far the distance is from the observer to the visible horizon?

    The normal formula for a rectangular triangle Distance= HE / tg(angle) wil give a approximation
    but I suppose there is one better formula, that include the curvature of the earth?
