    We have all seen sunrises and sunsets but this thread went on for a long time because none of us could remember ever seeing a moonrise or moonset. I take it from this sample of data that even if it is possible to observe these events that they must be rare events and therefore not suitable for navigation.

    If you read the author's comment to the lake Michigan photo,
    you see that it took YEARS of hunting to make it:-)
    So it is hardly appropriate for navigation:-(
