The whole mirror method sounds cool, to possibly sight stars and planets inland. Randall, are you using a surveyors tripod and a bubble as Ed described, or another method to keep the mirror flat?

A 6 x 6 inch mirror 1/4 inch thick is 20 dollars and I have been using mine for 5 or more years.  They get fine scraches of course but this does not affect use.
