Re: Modern sextant production. Reply from SNO-T factory.

    Jean Philippe,

I am glad they are still in business, and I am surprised
with 54" arc error, perhaps there is another reason for this
    error which Wolfgang overlooked?
If I bought a new sextant with such arc error, I would
    inquire at the factory.

It is not true that they just write "Gut" in the certificates, or
ar least this was not the case in 2005.
(It is Cassens-Plath who write this).
    I have a beautiful
genuine Freiberger certificate for my SNO-T, written on the
printed Freiberger's table with their logo, and showing
actual corrections in seconds for every 10 degrees,
from 0 to 120, which were
    measured in my presence.
The errors it shows are so small, the largest is 10",
that I never use these numbers.

But 54" cannot be caled "Gut", even for everyday navigation
if we aim at 1' overall accuracy.
However, their advertizing booklet that I have does not specify what
    "Gut" means exactly :-)

    Alex.

    "SIRIUS" model.
