"Ditch" implies extreme Conditions. I feel far better served by the instruments listed in my kit. So my CN ditch kit is quite light. It is nothing.
My boat (F-27) not like the titanic is unsinkable so my best like raft will be my boat even if inverted. My full complement of CN should be with me.
In the event of total loss of GPS it is likely only to last days at most. Most of modern commerce depends on it. Or there has been nuclear war or or other major event making me far safer adrift at sea.
Navigation by traditional means, that is to say, at a time in the past that suites us, is fun, interesting and connects me to a deep tradition. We should not confuse tradition with practicality. A ditch bag is for the extreme. Many year of SAR experience tells me that Murphy has a large mansion at the intersection of me and extreme.

What is in your CN ditch kit?...
A GPS, VHS radio and a Cell Phone and a small solar charger. When venturing off shore a satellite communication device. My full CN kit is on the boat. If I need a ditch kit I am interested in modern technology just like my fore fathers, their ditch kit had the latest and best technolog, so does mine.Tom.
