I see from reading over my email on using equal altitudes around local noon that I used the term "equator" instead of "horizon" in describing the sight to take after noon has occurred. (We know noon has occurred when the sun begins to decline in altitude in our sextant sights.) What I meant to say was "Preset the sextant to the altitude taken before noon, then wait for the sun to descend to the horizon and note the time," not "descend to the equator." Hope that clarifies.
