It's also possible that
Robert's mail provider, or some intermediary site, has added George's
address to a black list (i.e., a "bad guy" list of addresses to be
blocked). In running mail lists and just generating lots of separate
e-mails over the years, I've found either my domain or a user name
occasionally appears on a black list somewhere. Most often it turns
out to be the result of some spammer co-opting an address and using it
as a "From:" address. Undoing that can be a challenge.
As a test, see if it's possible to exchange e-mail directly (as opposed to via this forum) with George. That may produce some useful diagnostic clues. Or the problem may go away on its own. Life on the Information Superhighway... ;-)

Hi Robert. You wrote: "I have recently noticed that I am not getting all of the nav list postings and in particular, those posted by George Huxtable. I only know this because I have been following the lively discussion on the "Taking four stars for checking accuracy of fix" thread. Clearly George is commenting on this as there have been a number of counter arguments presented in response, but as to George's comments, they are not reaching my in box. Anyone else out there having this problem? And no, I did check my system and it is not blocking anything." I checked the things that I can check from here. First, there's no systematic problem as far as I can tell. I have three email addresses signed up to receive NavList messages and they are missing no messages. I checked the status of your subscription info at googlegroups, and there's nothing unusual. You can catch up on any missing messages by visiting the archive here: www.fer3.com/arc (note that the message numbers are in the far-right column so you could compile a list of the missing numbers from your email and grab just the ones that you have missed). Just to repeat this so people (not you) don't start getting paranoid: THERE IS NO SYSTEMATIC PROBLEM. NO MESSAGES ARE MISSING FROM ACCOUNTS THAT I TRACK. NO MESSAGES ARE MISSING FROM THE ARCHIVE. :-) So what could explain the problem? I doubt that the fact that the messages were from George is actually relevant. Like most of us, George probably tends to send messages in a batch. So if you had an email outage of some sort at a particular time that just happened to correspond to the time when he was sending messages, it might create the impression that the problem is somehow related to his messages. An email outage can occur when a server gets re-booted. It's usually temporary and messages are re-sent after a while. So perhaps you will receive those messages during the next 24 hours. A more annoying type of "outage" can be caused by email "blacklisting" which is a form of spam-filtering performed by your service provider. This is hard to track down since they won't even tell you that they have blocked some emails. In this case, I would consider that unlikely since you have in fact received some NavList messages, just not all of them. There's nothing else that I can do on this end. Here's hoping that your problem clears up on its own. Let me know if you discover any other patterns or clues to what might be going on. -FER
