Byron: Sorry I missed answer to this past reply.
But, every thing was and is top secrect + about the
polaris subs. On the SSBN 602, Underway Navigation
was stood by only two people 6 hours off and 6 on.
The idea was no one need to know were we were.
A few select others could know where we were,
but as long as were in deep good waters and on a
very large station in good waters, they had no reason to
know. The idea was to be ready in case of need, but
    Hopely never needed.
Polaris subs missles were not to be used unless last resort.
I don't see now they can be better now, but am sure
they are. After underwater for 6 or so weeks we knew
exactly were we were, we surfaced and entered port.
