    Hello Hien,

Regarding Plath adjusting tools, I have only about two or three left in stock and am very reluctant to let them go. What can one do?

A certain size of clock key could work if the outside barrel diameter is turned down to fit inside the adjusting screw sleeve.

A very well equipped hobby shop might have square brass stock with a square opening. A search online for metal stock for modelers might turn something up.

We once hired a retired jeweler with a lathe and broaching tools to make copies of Plath wrenches, about 30 if I recall, and they finally sold out and the jeweler has passed away. I might look to have someone else do the same.

A bit of good news. I have a modest supply of Plath adjusting screws, square-headed (also the hex socket type that takes an Allen wrench), and the threaded fitting or sleeve they pass through.

Regarding the problem of a screw that is deep inside the sleeve and can't be reached, one could carefully file down the outer part of the sleeve until the adjusting screw is reachable. The alternative is to remove, if possible, the sleeve with the screw in it by removing the retaining screw and then unwinding the adjusting screw from the frame. Then it's a matter of finding a longer adjusting screw.

Your thoughts on any of this?

    Thanks,

    Ridge White

    Hi Ridge,

I need two mirrror adjusting tools only. Over the weekend I visited my friend who has a CPlath mirror adjustment tool. I was able to use it to adjust the index mirror. However I could not use it to adjust the horizon mirror. The reason was that the square head nut on the horizon mirror sunk a little too deep so that the tool wasn't able to grab it. Did you ever run into a problem like this before?

Here is some pictures of the mirror tool that my friend has.

I am away until Wed. Oct. 12th and will get back to you shortly after that. Is it only an adjusting tool you need, or new mirrors also?
