    Re: Mirror adjustment tools

    Hi Brad,

I am including here some measurements of the square nut for your reference:

I have not been successful in finding any socket that would fit into the mirror adjustment mechanism yet. I am thinking now of finding some flat head screw that can grab onto the square nut. Then, file it off until it would fit into the opening of the mirror adjustment nipple. Something like this:

It is hard to find a screw that fit the square nut but I think I might have more chance of finding it than finding a socket that works.

There are socket wrenches for square nuts!  Try searching for "square nut sockets".

Much more likely candidates will be "8 point" sockets.  These are readily available and most probably in your required size.

Please measure across the diagonal (for and along one flat side, obtaining two separate measurements and share those dimensions.

We should also take care to know the inner diameter of the circular surround, but the socket can always be ground down to fit inside the circle.

Got it Greg. The Alan wrench method worked like a charm. My WP Sextant is working good now. The C Plath Sextant with the square head is a still problem. I hope that Frank can 3d print the tool soon ;)

The W&P looks like a C.Plath Navistar Classic actually . The C&P is different but does share some parts. The 1.5 mm hex should still be a fit for the W & P. Worth a gamble.
