Jim, I leave it to Frank to comment on your lunars spreadsheet. I'm not at all familiar with his approach, and am really just trying to learn the basic theory...and figure out how to manipulate one of my sextants "horizontally." You learned and did CN in the Navy? Didn't the Naval Academy just "recently" begin re-teaching Celestial Navigation? Did you ever read The Caine Mutany? (Or see the great movie?)
