    Interesting question, Frank.  As I look at your two photos, I think I would prefer it if my own sextant lacked the small vernier scale.  I end up squinting at my small vernier for a good 5 seconds to decide what it is telling me.  I think I could probably estimate the tenths of a minute by eye in a fraction of the time.

    Perhaps I will tape over the small vernier on my Tamaya and see if it helps me take sights with less squinting.
