Alex & Frank:
Re using a higher powered scope, spotting scope, to check index error on one's sextant, I have a spotting scope that I used to use when I was engaged in high power rifle competition, we used to shoot matches at 600 and 1000 yards, and a spotting scope was handy for viewing shot impacts on the target. My scope has a 25 power eyepiece and a 45 Degree head.
Seems like it would involve major surgery to attach such a scope to a sextant, assuming that it could be done at all.
but then I'm sort of clumsy.
