    Mer-pass vs Upper Culmination
    From: Tony Oz
    Date: 2017 Oct 22, 08:47 -0700

    Hello!

The sunrise/sunset table from The Raft Book made me think if the Sun's meridian passage and its upper culmination are the same event. I think there are seasons when the mer-pass is different from the culmination: the equinoxes. May be I'm wrong but an observer is only able to accurately measure the altitude (rather than the azimuth), so the time of the mer-pass proper is only available by SR. Unless it were solstices. I think to build a sunset/sunrise table for emergency navigation purposes that will include all the times and azimuth angles, and also list the moments of mer-pass and culminations. Please comment.

    Regards,

    Tony
