Dear Henry, "Handelsmarine" is also a correct translation, whereas "Handelsschiffmarine" is not - at least as far as my feeling for my own native tongue is concerned. Apart from that I`d be glad to assist you in searching for German books no matter whether they`re about the "Handelsschiffmarine" or any other subject. Languages do change and Germans were/are notorious for building elaborate and descriptive nouns, buit when I sailed aboard German ships I described myself as being in the Handelsschiffmarine, or Handelsmarine - after all, I did say "at one time". Would be interested in discussing with you a search for a german book that I have been looking for over the years.
