Re: Merchant Marine In German Is Handlesmarine?
    From: Joel Jacobs
    Date: 2004 Nov 12, 19:05 +0000
    Hello,

I've come up with a slightly different answer using a web German-English dictionary.  I suspect the appropriate maritime useage is as Wolfgang and Henry reported.

    Deutsch English
1 Ergebnis fr merchant shipping 1 result for merchant shipping
    Handelsschifffahrt {f}; Handelsschiffahrt {f} [alt]

    merchant shipping

    Deutsch English
1 Ergebnis fr merchant marine 1 result for merchant marine
Handelsmarine {f}; Marine {f} merchant navy; merchant marine

    The dictionary is at

    http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/

This does not answer the meaning of Deutsche Seefahrt imprinted on a sextant certificate.
