Re: Mark-IX-A bubble sextant calibration report

    Dave,

Thanks for these instructions about the old manual Mark-IX use. That’s what I’m already doing. My unit had a functional averaging mechanism when received though the bubble chamber was empty and the increment level was jam. It did require a good servicing, including replacing parts and additional upgrades such as for the bubble chamber to be easily refilled. I bought few needed parts to Paul Brewer but my unit needed also a broken copper blade spring to be replace, which was not available from anywhere. I manage to make one from a copper pipe with good results. At the end, this old manual unit is working almost as a new.

About my calibration stations write up. I’m almost done. It should be ready for publication by the end of the week-end or so. I have to take few pictures and prepare its final layout to be acceptable for a web publication on this forum. I’m saying “acceptable” because my English writing is less than perfect but should be clear enough for the readers to understand and comment on the subject.

Thanks again for your support. I sincerely appreciate your dedication.

    Warmest regards from upper 48

PS: this  “upper 48” expression is funny since I’m living on 45N! I guess it is simply because the longest border stretch is on the 48N latitude.
    :)
