When I bougt my Mark-IX units (one with the automatic averager and the other one with a 6 shots manual averager) I discovered in the handle of the automatic unit 2 genuine Eveready C type batteries .

It's an amazing thing that the old card covered carbon zinc batteries with the manganese dioxide and salamoniac filling should have leaked badly, but hardly every seemed to do so (or maybe the leakage just dried up over the years), but the modern so called leakproof metal sheathed batteries often seem to leak, and the leakage seems much more corrosive,
