    For what it's worth, I  agree completely. Lots of good history in it, too.

    for various types of navigation and what would be the appearence of  great

    Have you looked at a  Bowditch on map projections? Not bad for that sort of
    thing (the most recent I  have is from 1966 and I haven't checked later  ones).
