Making an artificial horizon -- seeking a source for optical flats
    From: Paul Saffo

I have been looking for some time for a source that sold smoked optically flat glass suitable for making an artificial horizon. So far, I haven't had any success (what I found was at once too small, and too expensive!) and thus was hoping someone on this list might have a suggestion.

Incidentally, my plan was to make a setup similar to the breathtakingly expensive Freiberger artificial horizon available from various sellers. For leveling, I was planning to mount the glass on a surveyor's tribrach, which are available at quite reasonable (under $100) cost.

Any and all leads would be greatly appreciated!
