To confirm your index error readings try using Jupiter this evening. (Azimuth 227*, Alt. 41* at 1800 LMT)
1. Set the index arm and micrometer drum to zero with all shades removed.
2. Focus the scope on Jupiter (infinity)
3. Put in just a touch of side error using the adjustment wrench so that two separate images of Jupiter are seen side by side.
4. Average 10 or more index observations aligning the Jupiter images horizontally side by side.
Sirius would be good for this as well (Azimuth 118*, Alt. 8* at 1800 LMT)
