It's well charted. The charts call it "local magnetic anomaly."
I suspect that the rise of the Bermuda Triangle legend has a lot to do with this
problem. As for cause, I don't know for sure. I suspect a high iron
content in the seabed, but that's me speculating.
I haven't been too close to Bermuda, but I have seen the magnetic compass
take on strange "deviations" along the US East Coast.
