Kieran, I can't explain this to your satisfaction. You answered my questions that I posted.I did some research(Bowditch etc.)to try to understand how they did it.I understand what they were doing and how the tables were used to arrive at the solution. I am not a mathimatician nor do I wish to delve deeply into theory of it.In all these examples I am more interested in the mechanics of each of these processes.I can go to Bowditch or some other publication and find the formuli or method to find what one needs to get a solution. So,in this sense I cannot explain to you or anyone your questions concerning the "restricted nav. triangle". I'm sure some one on list can explain it to your satisfation. Not what you wanted to hear but the best I can do. Doug, Happy to send some other examples of how ACG worked mag var in the bush, but you have to pay the piper first and explain it to me i.e. what was the basis of that technique, how it worked, what was he trying to achieve with the solution to that restricted celestial triangle? Regards Kieran Kelly Sydney Australia. Keiran,I spent some time over the last few days studying and getting familiar with Gregory's technique you sent.It took some digging and refamiliarisation with the haversine tables but I see how and why it was accomplished. All my questions were answered. Do you have another technique for finding variation you can share with us?
