Doug,

Thanks.  That's what I've heard to, but there have been more recent
claims that it still could be done here.  Mr Luykx (I have to look up
his web site every time to spell his name
) didn't do it.

I really enjoyed talking with him.  He was a fine gentleman.  He was
Navy, but I don't know whether a QuarterMaster or officer.  It's
possible that before 1960 or so many of the people taking sights were
officers, but don't know that.  I would guess the modern QuarterMaster
would correspond to the old Masters on the British line of battle
ships.
