I am sorry, Gary, that it has taken me so long to take pictures of my MHR1 reproduction. I completed it last year, used it once and then lost interest a little. On my forthcoming voyage I will be taking a scientific calculator rather than the MHR1.

The scales came from Robin Stuart via Wolfgang. After gluing them in place I gave them several coats of shellac to protect them and to give an antique look to them. Those wishing to imitate the perspex cursors may contact me off-list for an explanation of how they were made. There is no real need to lock the tubes as there seems to be just the right amount of friction from strips of baize, but I can vary the friction and lock the tubes if necessary. At the bottom end of the inner tube, two plates squeeze a large O ring and make it expand. Wolgang's solution was more elegant. The knob at the top is too small, but I had no aluminium bar of the right diameter.
