I cannot say about most members, and even don't know
how many members reduce Lunars on a regular basis,
so I can only tell what I do.
My prefered method on land (at home)
    is Frank's on-line Lunar
calculator, which is quick and seems to be reliable,
    even back to XVIII century.
Of course it is an internet-based method, and cannot
    be used at sea, unless
your boat has an internet connection:-)
When sailing or traveling with my laptop (rarely), I use a
simple spreadsheet program (and usual almanac for the
    Moon data).
When sailing or traveling without my laptop) I use
my Casio fx-250D calculator and the usual almanac.
Both the computer spreadsheet and hand calculations are
based on an exact formula for clearing a distance which
can be found on Frank's website, or in Chauvenet book,
    or in many other places.
In general, I prefer a calculator to all kinds of tables
for all kinds of reductions. Unfortunately this model
Casio fx-250D has been discontinued long ago.
And I don't know any other calculator which is so convenient
    for CelNav (because of VERY EASY sexagesimal input/output;
it is as easy as decimal input! No other calculator that
I know, including later models of Casio,
has this nice feature.) Casio fx-250D sometimes can be
    found on e-bay.
(My own works perfectly since 1987).
