Sean,
If you were using the plastic 3x optic that comes with the Davis MK 15 then I would consider your set of observations as lucky great. I owned a MK 15 at one time and used it as a traveling and lender sextant. The 3x scope lens scratched up and was not useful over time. The filters left me wanting. The index error wouldn't hold for beans and required checking before and after every observation. It took every trick in the book to get consistently better than 3' while observing the Sun at the beach. A new Davis may produce good results but don't expect it to stay that way after heavy use.
