While I'm thinking of it, here's a link to a lunar cleared by a close
cousin of Thomson's method back on February 9th of a year in the early 1840s
aboard a vessel whose DR longitude was 140..00W:
It's a fun puzzle to figure out what the exact year was and then to figure
out the vessel's position (latitude AND longitude) from the observations as
listed. There are a few little "oddities" in it that I still haven't figured
out...
Note that this lunar was done on a blank page in a logbook from an earlier
voyage so there's no connection with nearby pages. You have to figure out the
year some other way.
