Many thanks Frank. I did try to reply a few weeks ago, but I think it did not send correctly? I also sent an attached article. Not sure if you received that?
Did you by any chance get time to write up your quick method for clearing Lunars? I would be very interested to see that.
Still no answer re Cook's lunars. His journal entries do suggest he was using lunars for navigation even at the end of the voyage, so either he had a draft almanac with the 3 hourly LDs or someone was doing the "easy 4 hour Maskelyne" method from the Mariners Guide.
Perhaps we'll never know?
