I read in The Times that there will be a lunar occultation of Mars around 05.00 UTC on 8^th December 2022. Mars is occulted by full Moon

Are there any uses, such as checking their watch, which a very basic navigator, brave enough to be up at 5AM, can make to take advantage of this phenomenon? Can these the observations be used directly, or does a correction have to be made for the Moon’s parallax? DaveP
