Hi all -- Silicon Beach is taking shape. http://jimthompson.net/boating/CelestialNav/SiliconBeach/About.htm We have sights from the Caribbean, Atlantic Canada and Lake Michigan. I hope other members of this list are willing to submit one or two sights from their part of the world, so that we and anyone else can practice reducing them. Just send the following minimum data: Name and limb of the Body sighted. Date, uncorrected watch time, watch error. DR position or fix. Brief description of the location (eg. Beach at Club Med Dominican Republic; Anchored in Holland Cove off Charlottetown PEI; At sea in the Pacific 250 M west of San Francisco; Australian outback; Sailing in English Channel; etc.). Type of horizon (Natural, Artificial, Dip Short). Distance to obstruction if Dip Short used. hs (sextant altitude, not corrected). Height of eye. Index error. Your Hc, intercept and Zn. But feel free to send any other information about your sight too.
