    Germany's and Austria's lack of StreetView may be related to their past histories with authoritarian governments.

    What coverage there is probably dates to before an official policy went into affect about it not being allowed. 

    I suspect that other built up western world areas with little coverage are also becasue of official limits to protect privacy

    I'm intrigued by the map of the world in Street View. In some countries the tiniest alleys have been covered. In other countries, there is almost nothing. What do Germany, Austria, and Bosnia have in common that distinguishes them from the rest of western Europe? ...almost no Street View coverage.
