Fun to think of the association between this Ducie Island time-site scrap, guano prospecting, Captain Nemo's mythical island and their similar dates.

I can't remember the name of Nemo's island base in 2000 Thousand Leagues Under the Sea but surly it is like Ducie, only larger, with volcanic crater lake inside. Attached is a page from Verne's book and the Nautilus's route through the Pacific. The route passes near Ducie, one of the islands with slaves mining guano that led Nemo to one last attack, a guano ship.

Jules Verne published in 1870, our guano prospector in South Pacific scrap in 1864.
