It is not really necessary when calculating zenith distance directly to convert this to Hc. Just sum the calculated ZD and the Ho.
excess over 90, intercept is towards
deficit from 90, intercept is away
trivial, I know, but saves a step and is easy to remember.
I posted something along these lines earlier, but my post seem to have got lost in the ether.
